Prayer Resources

When it is difficult to pray, many people turn to prayer resources for help.

Using the Internet for Prayer

While a cyberspace community cannot fully replace the importance of faith sharing and worshipping with a community in the flesh, the Internet can provide some important resources for personal reflection. Below is a list of some web sites that others have found helpful, along with a brief description of the resources available through that site.

www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/online.html
Online Ministries, sponsored by the Collaborative Ministry Office at Creighton University, offers daily reflections, an online retreat, Stations of the Cross and resources for the Liturgical Seasons of Lent and Advent. Visitors can also click on links providing additional information on spirituality and justice.

www.sacredgateway.org
Sponsored by YOUTHFRONT, this website invites you to spend ten minutes in prayer as you sit in front of your computer. Prayer is scripture-based and on-screen guidance is provided to help you to focus and center on the presence of God.

www.spiritualityhealth.com
Subtitled “spiritual practices for the human being,” the Spirituality and Health web site offers a variety of resources such as “e-courses” in which subscribers can receive input from a variety of religious traditions. Resources are also provided for the different liturgical seasons.

www.usccb.org
The web site sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops provides the readings used at mass each day in print form and as a podcast. In addition, one can access the bible on line and view a variety of resources for Catholic holy days.

www.americancatholic.org
The web site entitled “American Catholic” provides numerous online helps for the busy Catholic. Those accessing the web site are invited to read and respond to articles reflecting upon the scriptures. Scripture articles are also followed by questions that can be used for personal reflection. “Minute Meditations” are available to encourage “a quiet spot in your busy day,” and visitors can listen to or read about the “Saint of the Day.” Biographies of other saints are also available as are e-cards, information to enrich your understanding of the Catholic faith and a section where you can share prayer intentions. Visitors to the web site can also register for a free Catholic e-newsletter.

www.disciplesnow.com
“Disciples Now” contains many of the elements of other Catholic web sites – online access to the scriptures, with reflections and questions; and information on the Saint of the Day and other Saints – in a format appealing to young adults. Visitors are invited to join the “Chat Zone” for an online chat and are invited to design e-cards. Reviews of popular movies are also available as well as a link to “Spirit and Song,” a Christian music site.

www.methodx.net
Sponsored by the Upper Room Ministries, “Method X – The Way of Christ” is a Christian site, which provides a young adult friendly approach to spirituality and an online young adult community. Visitors can read movie and music reviews, obtain information about prayer styles and personality types, receive instruction on prayer methods and share prayers on the “prayer wall.”

www.BustedHalo.com
The “How to Pray Section” (under “Faith Guides”) offers guidance for a variety of prayer styles.

www.ReJesus.com
An ecumenical site which offers a daily scripture-based prayer with a prayer exercise and a suggested way to put the prayer into practice.

Prayers Created by You and by Other Young Adults
Sometimes the best resource may be a prayer created by someone who is going through a similar experience. We invite you to post an original prayer that can be shared with others.

Prayer for Marist Young Adults
Posted by: Matt Fallon

Jesus, as someone who experienced being a Young Adult when you walked this earth, You know me well.
You know my challenges and temptations; You know my opportunities and blessings; You know my heart.
As I continue on my journey of faith, stay close by me and guide me.
Help me to listen to Your call and to have the courage to make decisions that lead to a fuller life in Your friendship.
Help me to rely on Your love, and trust in Your Word.
Help me to speak, act and live as a witness to your care and compassion.
May others know You through me.
Amen.

Prayer of St. Ignatius

Dearest Jesus teach me to be generous
Teach me to love and serve you as you deserve,
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest
To labour and to look for no reward,
Except that of knowing that I do your Holy Will.
Amen

Prayer for Discernment
Posted by: Matt Fallon

God our Father,
You have a plan for each one of us,
You hold out to us a future full of hope.
Give us the wisdom of your Spirit
so that we can see the shape of your plan
in the gifts you have given us,
and in the circumstances of our daily lives.
Give us the freedom of your Spirit,
to seek you with all our hearts,
and to choose your will above all else.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
(DVC- Based on Jeremiah 29:11-13)

A Prayer of Thanksgiving
Posted by: Vinny Caramele

Father,
I just want to thank you for those constant reminders of your love. I know your love when a child laughs, when a hug is meant and when someone helps a stranger. I can feel your love as you let it emanate from all your children here on earth. Please keep these reminders frequent because when times get tough, I can always know that it pales in comparison to the strength of your love for me.
